Leaders are Readers

So says John C. Maxwell, one of America’s most prolific business thought leaders over the last 30 years.  Whether you’re a seasoned leader or just embarking on your professional career, this recently revised version provides a powerful roadmap for effective self-development.

Are you serious about becoming an elite entrepreneur?

Then we suggest you tap into the tried and true principles of Maxwell’s 21 tactics.  Here are 5 that we know will provide immediate impact:

1. The Law of Influence: “The true measure of leadership is influence – nothing more nothing less.”  Go ahead and take a look behind you, is there anyone there?  If not, you need to read this book.  Leaders cannot be dictators any more. Gone are the days of command and control.  If you are going to succeed as a leader you need to make people want to do things, not simply tell them.  Now follow us so people will follow you.

2. The Law of Addition: As a leader you either add value or subtract it from your team.  Does your leadership math add up?  As a leader you have a profound impact to make life better of worse for your team.  Are you building people up or tearing them down.  Check you ego at the door, add value to others, and you will see more than your bottom-line add up.

3. The Law of Respect: “People naturally follow leaders stronger than themselves.”  Does your team have leaders at a variety of levels and are you modeling respect by taking care of your people?  Our military has a very powerful way of making this law absolutely apparent in that officers always eat last when on maneuvers.  Officers make sure that everyone of their troops is fed before they will break bread.  Do you cut in front to grab the first slice or do you step aside to serve your team?

4. The Law of Intuition: “Leaders evaluate everything with a leadership bias.”  Intuition is that graceful combination of gift and experience, but if you want your business to have a leadership bias you must view the world through a leadership lens and enable others to do the same.

5. The Law of Magnetism: ” Who you are is what you attract.”  Who is on your kickball team?  Mom was right when she told us to be careful about who we hangout with.  Instead of risking the kickball championship you could be putting your entire business success at risk. Take a good hard look in the mirror and if the wrong people are staring back at you then you know whom to change.

Leadership is an apprentice trade, so do not expect to become a master overnight.  That said, with diligent application of these principles, you’ll be 21 steps closer to success!  Remember, your team is counting on you, so step up, take the reins, read the book and start developing your personal leadership legacy.
