FLASHPOINTS

The end of the week is the best time to plan for the coming week. And at this point, you’ve reviewed the previous week and can be prepared to make changes and take actions based on thought not reaction. You want to keep your goals in mind always. So today is your opportunity to look at yesterday’s Weekly Reflection and decide what you’re going to do and when. It is most often small tweaks that will lead to great success, fueled by a positive and grateful attitude.

After five days of prompting and prodding new ideas and thoughts to come to mind, today we review what we’ve discovered. It’s time to take a peek back at our journaling, to review our thoughts, feelings, and action items; and see how well we did. After all, self-awareness is the key to initiate growth and realize lasting change.

Being the boss is tough, regardless of our position within the organizational pyramid. It takes tenacity, capabilities that cover myriad tasks, and the confidence to push through barriers. Even if we think we’re at the top, we’re not—we still must answer to the customer or investor. So if we think accountability is for “others,” or only for us to dish out, THINK AGAIN! Ultimately, we answer to our customers—internal or external. Answering consistently and on-time requires discipline; to forge that into a habit, we’ve got to dare to be accountable to someone other than ourselves. Finding a coach or someone who will be just as invested in our efforts as we are is the key. To whom do you answer, and to whom are you accountable?

If you’ve been blessed to see courage in action, you’ve recognized that the lives of the courageous are punctuated with greatness, and they possess an air of confidence that’s intoxicating. Of the mother who, to free her trapped child, lifts her vehicle (while in the absence of fear she could barely budge its weight); or when the meek finally throw off the chains of his aggressor, do we call them weak? Pull back the curtain and we’ll recognize that it’s courage that provides the wisdom to be humble and sustains us on our journey toward our dreams. We may not always be right and we may not always win, but we have the chance to try again tomorrow. Where are you able to dig deep, be bold, and try again?

There are myriad conversations going on around us about vision and passion. It can feel nightmarish for those whose light bulbs haven’t yet been lit. The truth is, it takes work to discover where to plug in. Only a very lucky few knew from kindergarten what they wanted to do. But how are we, the less lucky, supposed to find “it?” Step 1: Stop waiting … while a great idea might hit us out of the blue, they’ll normally hit while we’re DOING something. Step 2: If something sounds interesting, dive in and see where it leads—a natural talent or affinity may appear. Eventually, the light bulb will flicker and then start to glow brightly. Is your passion burning bright enough to light your path? Now what?

When it comes to opportunity, it’s rarely just a matter of good fortune. Not often can we say it was simply meant to be. And only sometimes can we attribute it to being in the right place at the right time. Most of the time, opportunity comes from serving others first, generating good word-of-mouth, expanding our sphere of influence, creating our own opportunities from nothing, and working hard to achieve excellence in every piece of work we put our name to. Building on our credibility, serving others, and demonstrating results will get us there. Where will your next opportunity come from?

Having a great idea is a great start, but that’s all it is … an idea. Unless we’re constantly taking action on those ideas, they don’t have much value other than being a pleasant little dream. At the very basis of our success is our ability to transform ideas into actions to be taken by us and others who believe in our cause. So, if we want to change the world, make an impact in our communities and achieve success, we must take that first small step, and then take another. Our continued success depends on taking small actions consistent with achieving our goals over and over again. What action will you take today to move your ideas one step closer to reality?

How can you rev up the sleek factor today in whatever you’re doing?

Emergencies and crises aside, before making that phone call to our mentors or trusted advisors, let’s show we’re serious about our goals by doing some real planning. Effective planning helps crystallize what’s known and unknown and lays out in gory detail what we anticipate will happen. Our extra efforts offer our mentors the chance to red-line our plan for crystal clarity and inspires them to want to offer more guidance. Proper planning also prepares us to ask profound questions and offers the emotional freedom to effectively listen. Time is a precious resource, so we must seek a healthy balance between doing things right the first time and avoiding analysis paralysis in pursuit of perfection. What plans do you need to complete before presenting them to your mentor or coach?

Making daily decisions is challenging for many and forces some into a severe case of analysisparalysis, preventing them from taking action. Those gray areas of life can be difficult to negotiate, as there may not be a clear right or wrong, winner or loser. But, if at the very core of all our actions is being true to ourselves, our values and our goals, and acting in the best interest of those involved with our ventures, suddenly putting ourselves out there isn’t as challenging as we imagined. If we only take actions consistent with our values, even if the results are less than expected, at least we haven’t compromised who we are. How have you made speaking the truth on a daily basis part of who you are?

It’s really amazing that the moment we pry ourselves open to the possibility of a new idea or approach, it manifests and presents itself to us! We’ve all experienced times when we start thinking about something new or an unsolved problem and suddenly iterations of ideas and solutions begin to appear around us for the next few days. Is it Law of Attraction, social trends, or the Reticular Activating System in our brains? Who cares? It’s awesome to experience! Just remember that whenever we need a fresh perspective, inspiration, or solution, the answers are already around us … we just need to be open to learning them. In our heads and our hearts. What messages and conversations are going on around you that you can tune into?
